International Festival ‘Generative Pedagogy and Thinking Communities’: education, legality and public responsibility at the centre of the first day

On Wednesday, 6 May, the third edition of the International Festival “Generative Pedagogy and Thinking Communities” opened at the University of Salerno, under the title Generative Learning and Emancipation. Authentic Life between Kairós and Kronos, promoted and organised by the UNESCO Chair “Generative Pedagogy and Educational Systems to Tackle Inequality” (holder: Prof. Emiliana Mannese). The Festival establishes itself as a transdisciplinary space for dialogue among pedagogy, institutions, art, culture, and local communities, aimed at building Thinking Communities and promoting educational processes oriented towards emancipation, social justice, and collective responsibility. The central event of the first day was the dialogue between the Public Prosecutor of Naples, Nicola Gratteri, and Prof. Emiliana Mannese, titled Emancipation, Constitution, and Knowledge. An intense and engaged discussion focused on the relationship between education, legality, and democracy, highlighting the strategic role of knowledge in building a more aware and just society oriented towards the common good. During the meeting, the themes of public responsibility, social fragility, inequalities, and the formation of consciousness were addressed from the perspective of a pedagogy capable of generating participation, critical thinking, and active citizenship. Education was emphasised as a fundamental lever to counter cultural drift, marginalisation, and educational poverty, promoting processes of individual and collective emancipation. The opening day began with a speech by Prof. Marco Impagliazzo, President of the Community of Sant’Egidio, who emphasised the value of communities as spaces of closeness, responsibility, and peacebuilding. Alongside moments of scientific and institutional reflection, the Festival highlighted dialogue between art, education, and local areas through the concert organised by the ‘Arturo Toscanini’ Academy, the presentation of the Spring School Pedagogy and Generative Guidance: Building Thinking Communities, directed by Prof. Maria Grazia Lombardi, and the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the works of the Creative Symposium on Artistic Expression, Emancipation, and Generative Learning: Authentic Life between Kairós and Kronos. The first day of the Festival was an important opportunity to build cultural, scientific, and institutional networks, confirming the role of the UNESCO Chair and the University of Salerno in promoting generative educational practices and the public dissemination of knowledge. In this context, the Festival is not only an academic event but also a cultural and scientific platform designed to strengthen connections between universities, communities, territories, and institutions, recognising education as a fundamental common good for the future of democracy.
